For the Artist and the Song

An artist's music is their soul and lifeblood. My position as a collaborator/producer is to remain true to the artist's vision, yet develop and embellish that vision to fully realize the potential of the song.

I enjoy offering artists a direction that might be new or different, exploring any paths that might prove fruitful, while agreeing to respect convention as perceived by the artist. In any case, the end result will be continuity in emotional truth and sonic canvas.

Upon introduction to a song, I initially develop rhythm, and build support for melody. I have an affinity for the female voice, and extensively use electronics. I use depth and dimension to embellish a song's character and enhance emotional impact.

My mixing of a song can occupy anywhere from several hours to several days, depending on its complexity and how the mix presents the music. This is coupled with a willingness to abandon approaches that were thought to have potential, but prove fruitless. I avoid insistence on factors that do not resonate with the artist.

I'm a fanatic for sonic detail and cohesion, and that is addressed in stages as a mix develops. The concept of sonic "perfection" is, of course, a largely subjective one. Even when perfecting the mix as a separate entity, the objective is ultimately to serve the song's character, message and attitude.

No Rules, Only Guidelines

I will try anything, unless it poses risk to my gear. I have no purist or ethical issues with tuning or sound replacement, being of the mindset of "whatever it takes to get it done."
